Synergy recently hosted job fairs in the Chicago and Detroit areas to find local talent.
The Chicago area fair was held at the Hickory Ridge Marriott Conference Center in Lisle, IL and attended by Synergy’s Operations Manager, Scott Langohr; Chicago-based recruiters Neal Caldwell, Jordan Narancich, and Anika Riar; Marketing Manager, Karen Schmitz, and Sales Associate, Matt Petrusha.
The Detroit area fair was held at the Marriott Courtyard Southfield, in Southfield, MI and attended by the entire Detroit-based recruiting team: Scott Langohr, Jeff Givens, Stephanie Jones, Janina Gilbert, and Otho Scarbrough.
Job fairs are considered a ‘thing of the past’ since today, job candidates find jobs primarily through networking and internet postings. But Scott’s decision to hold a more traditional type of job fair turned out to be a good one. Traffic was light, as anticipated, at both fairs, but the quality of candidates was good. In our industry, quality is far more important than quantity when seeking to fill challenging positions.
The idea of focusing on quality vs. quantity proved to be fruitful. The Chicago team found a strong Project Manager, Database Analyst, Quality Tester, and a Sales candidate. The Detroit team found 3 strong Oracle professionals, and a Quality Analyst. Two of the candidates have been submitted to Synergy opportunities and one is in the interview process. We are going to make these fairs a regular part of ourrecruiting process and host them each quarter in each market.
Promoting the job fairs helped bring attention to the Synergy brand and increased traffic to our website, as well.
Our recruiting team is still reviewing resumes and candidates received at the fairs, but we are hoping to get a few good additions to our Synergy staff as a result!
